About Library:

The University Library, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University is a Centre of information for the academic community of the University and is expected to be developed into a hub of knowledge to all the academic community and a gateway to national and global knowledge. It ensures fair access to knowledge to the academics on the campus in particular and to each individual related to the university in general. The Library started functioning in July 2009. Within a short period it could attain a considerable level of development and is moving fast towards a fully automated library. Library is using KOHA Software for automation.

Mission:

In keeping with the vision and mission of the University, the library has been established to promote knowledge generation and application through its effective dissemination. The library, therefore, acts as the main learning resource Centre of the University and provides services and facilities to meet the requirements of the University's teaching, training, and research programmers.

Objectives:

The library operates with the following objectives:

  • To support the learning process of the PhD/PG/UG students through provision of knowledge/information.
  • To meet knowledge/information needs of the faculty, to support their teaching activities.
  • To meet knowledge/information needs of the faculty and research staff to support their research activities.
  • To respond effectively, where possible, to the knowledge/information needs of the Universitys client systems.

Library timing

  • Monday to Friday 9.30 AM to 12 AM
  • Saturday and Sunday 9.30 AM to 6 PM
  • Closed on 06 national holidays

  • Book lending service
  • Reading room service: 500 students can be accommodated at a time
  • Reference service
  • Internet access (25 computers for accessing internet)
  • Current awareness service
  • Photocopy service by outsourcing
  • Separate section for Competitive exams
  • Separate sections for tribal studies
  • Separate section for reference collection
  • Separate reading room teachers and research scholars
  • Separate section for textbooks
  • Anti-plagiarism checking software (URKUND)

Membership

  • Library is a member of INFLIBNET Shodhganga, a repository of Indian Ph.D Theses & Dissertations.

Innovative activities

  • Library has a special scheme called Earn-While-Learn™ to help needy students earn some money during their free time.
  • Library has presence on social media via face book for creating awareness on latest happenings in Library
  • Library has set up NPTEL local chapter to help students pursue online courses and obtain certification
